About Sara Jomaa

In Sara Jomaa's workshop
In Sara Jomaa’s workshop, every detail tells a story. The walls are covered with sketches of jewelry and books on jewelry from around the world, while the tools and machines, remnants of the master filigree artists of the medina of Tunis, hum to the rhythm of her work.
Originally from Ksour Essaf, near Mahdia, Sara Jomaa grew up in a region renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship, where silk weaving, embroidery, and silver and gold jewelry making are living traditions. From an early age, she was introduced to the manual arts by her mother, developing a love for creation.
After graduating from high school, Sara Jomaa moved to Tunis to attend the School of Fine Arts, where she earned a degree in product design. But theory was not enough; she aspired to practice. She explored various artists’ studios, learned wood and bone carving, and then specialized in jewelry making. While working as a trainer in a center in the medina of Tunis, she perfected her art with the last filigree masters of the medina.
With her pencil constantly moving between her fingers, Sara Jomaa sketched her first jewelry designs, then opened her own jewelry workshop. Little by little, she mastered each stage of the craft, until she fully understood the entire process, from concept to finished piece.
Today, after 15 years of passion and experimentation in her workshop, accompanied by Zeineb and Nada, two artisans trained under her wing, Sara Jomaa has transcended the boundaries of traditional craftsmanship. Her creations, marked by boldness and innovation, constantly push the boundaries of classical techniques, opening up new artistic and aesthetic horizons in the world of jewelry.

Inspiration and creativity, design and contemporary traditional craftsmanship
Sara Jomaa’s work is a vibrant tribute to the master craftsmen of the past, a sublimation of the techniques, forms, and materials of the past. She offers a reinterpretation and rewriting of the most precious objects of Tunisian craftsmanship, including costumes, weaving, copperware, jewelry, and more.
Both a designer and an artisan, she brings about a process of transformation in her work by discerning the past evolution of the forms and symbols of craftsmanship and projecting their potential evolution. She recomposes these elements with a contemporary sensibility, rethinking them to imagine new possibilities.
She has managed to maintain a fresh and wonder-filled perspective on the riches of her artisanal past and on ancient everyday objects. With her expertise, she has created her own universe, developing jewelry collections inspired by a single element or shape, restructuring it, multiplying it, and liberating it from its original form.
As Kitaôji Rosanjin, a 20th-century Japanese artist, liked to say, “The objects that surround me every day are my teachers and my friends.” Sara lives in this authentic era, where handcrafted objects have accumulated the know-how and techniques of female artisans and master craftsmen of the past. She offers a temporal perspective on this evolution through a process of decomposition and valorization of the forms and techniques that have survived through the ages. These collections highlight these elements, with silver thread as her main tool. Zigzags, infinity symbols, filigree, and the simple structure of the jewelry become an integral and essential part of a collection. The extracted element becomes the essence of the jewelry’s dynamic. The jewelry is developed around a single element in a creative contemporary style. From the very fine work of filigree, a true embroidery with silver thread, Sara Jomaa’s jewelry becomes pieces with spectacular dimensions, an integral part of the garment.
To this enduring embodiment of craftsmanship and artisanal genius passed down from generation to generation, to this profound tribute to the work of her ancestors, Sara brings her own universe, her uniqueness through her view of the world, her creativity and her mastery of techniques and materials, a contemporary Tunisian identity.
Sara Jomaa’s creations are inspired by nature and its phenomena. The jewelry in this collection is distinguished by its heightened imagination, oscillating between experimentation and artistic design, illustrating her interpretation of flora and fauna.
